m2 is a dynamic boutique winery located in Lodi producing ultra-premium wines from distinctive vineyards throughout California. Since 1999 m2 wines have been created in small lots through a combination of old world craftsmanship and modern practices.
From stellar examples of Lodi Zinfandel to classic Napa Cabernet to exciting Rhone wines from the Sierra Foothills, m2 wines are created to fully express the character of the vineyard and the fruit of the vine as wine that is true to itself - balanced, complex, approachable and age-worthy. Description of Vineyards
m2 does not own vineyard land; we source our grapes from a variety of elite vineyards across California. This means we can make wines from grapes that are best suited to the region in which they were grown. For the most part we have been making wine from the same vineyards since 2002. We have great relationships with our growers. They work with us during the growing season to ensure that our wines are made with exceptional grapes. As m2 grows we will continue to search out exceptional vineyards for new wines to add to our portfolio.
Tour InformationGroups and individuals wishing to tour m2 are welcome. Because the winery isn't very big the tour won't take long! However, we would love to show you around and talk about the way we make wine. You'll most likely be invited to barrel taste and you'll discover how barrels affect the development of the wines. Additional Information
We produce about 1600 cases of wine a year at our winery in Lodi. Half of the winery is carefully temperature-controled and dedicated to barrel storage (our "cellar"), finished case-good storage, our tasting room and our wine lab. The other half of the winery is used for fermentation and that's where we keep our destemmer/crusher, our press, various sized tanks and other winemaking equipment.
Our wines are made in small lots following traditional production methods enhanced by adoption of current best practices. Our winemaking philosophy is to minimize intervention in the winemaking process, thereby allowing the fruit to express itself while making a balanced wine that is approachable and age-worthy. This means a lot of physical labor is required to create our wines. We use multiple strains of yeast during fermentation to create layers of complexity in the finished wine, much like an artist uses different colors to create works of art. We do not use oak staves, or chips or oak powders during fermentation or during barrel aging in the cellar. We carefully monitor our wines from the vineyard to the finished bottle, working to ensure quality from harvest until you pull the cork on a bottle of our wine.
