Flavor

The muscat family is huge and varied, yielding wines that can be as pleasantly sweet, light and frisky as youngsters to as dark, dense and crusty as old men in the prison yard.

Body

The range is diverse, from mere slips of springtime wine to seasoned logs throwing the warmest heat from the winter fireplace.

At the table, pour it with...

Lighter-style muscats are to be packed in the picnic basket next to the savory cheeses, while the fortified, viscous and brooding styles go well with fresh berries, rich cheeses, dried tree fruits and chocolates with nuts and caramel.

Curiosities

More than 200 varieties of muscat are grown around the world, with the most common strains in California being muscat of Alexandria and muscat blanc, also known as muscat canelli, though orange muscat and black muscat also are found here.
